From cast iron-fronted buildings to the grandly disastrous post-modern Portland Building, much of Portland, Oregon’s history can be told through the buildings and street layouts; most importantly, the prioritization of parks throughout the city center. How did the city’s early urban planners decide on their layouts? How do modern designers look at the past and plan for the future? Who are the people these streets are named for? What’s with all the roses? It’s not a dry history: full of back-room deals, early deaths and greed; and then there were the hippies! We’ll also discuss the modern rise of radical activists in Portland and how that is intimately connected to the city’s history going back more than a century. Two hours, two miles

In the warmer months, you WILL see a gator!!! Every Airboat Tour is unique and we never know what will be around the next corner. The area toured is a combination of Swamp, Marsh and Lake. The Swamp is such a diverse ecosystem that you may see anything such as a Bald Eagle, a Pelican, an Osprey, or even an Owl. On this tour, you will experience the best of both: a swamp tour and an airboat ride. You will travel at high speeds on the airboat then slow down and stop for pictures. Along the way, you will get a personal tour by your local Captain. Our airboats have stadium style seating, so that the person in front of you does not obstruct your view. Every airboat seat is great for experiencing the tour and viewing the wildlife. Gators will get close…….real close!!!

Mountain biking + Trail Running + Hiking
Hike, run, or bike through the forest and alongside rivers, creeks, and lakes. The Whitewater Center maintains over 50 miles of trails for mountain bikers, hikers and trail runners. Use of the trail system does not require an activity pass. Please check the current trail status (at the top of the website) prior to accessing the trail system. The Parkway Trail is currently available as an all-weather trail when the system is closed.
