A 118 person retreat at a San Diego bayfront resort, with meeting space comped and the room rate cut

Paradise Point Resort & Spa, San Diego, California

Code.org, the education nonprofit, wanted to bring 118 people to a San Diego bayfront resort, a setting the whole team could meet in and enjoy, on a budget that respected a nonprofit's spend. We sourced Paradise Point Resort and Spa on Mission Bay and negotiated the room rate down, the resort fee waived, and the meeting space rental comped against the food and beverage spend.

A bayfront retreat, on a nonprofit budget

Code.org was bringing 118 people to San Diego and wanted a resort setting on the water, somewhere the team could meet and reset, while keeping a careful eye on cost the way a nonprofit has to. Finding that property and then negotiating it down takes sourcing time and leverage their team did not have to spend.

Paradise Point, sourced and negotiated

We landed on Paradise Point Resort and Spa, a 44 acre island resort on Mission Bay with the meeting space and the setting for a full company retreat, and went to work on the contract. The focus was the lines that move a nonprofit budget the most: the room rate, the resort fee, and the meeting space rental.

The savings we negotiated in

On the booked contract we cut the guest room rate to $229 from $249, waived the resort fee worth $46 per room per night, and got the meeting space rental comped against the food and beverage minimum. We also secured discounted self parking at $20 down from $49, a 10 percent banquet discount, a 15 percent AV discount, and a 20 percent discount on group activities.

One signed contract, hours kept

Code.org got a bayfront resort that fits a 118 person retreat, the biggest line items negotiated down before signing, and a single point of contact through sourcing and signature. Their team kept its time and its budget for the mission.
